A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet.
It is continued in the dental office by the efforts of your dentist and dental hygienist to promote, restore and maintain your oral health. Sealants and fluoride are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth. Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, beautiful smile.
Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings and X-rays. Some people worry about the radiation in dental X-rays, but dental X-rays are safe. We are all exposed to natural radiation in our environment. The amount of radiation exposure from a full mouth series of X-rays is equal to the amount a person receives in a single day from natural sources
CROWNS, BRIDGES AND VENEERS
A crown is a restoration that fits over the remaining part of your tooth. Crowns make teeth resilient and give them the look of a real tooth. Crowns can be used to restore teeth that have been broken or that have been weakened by decay. A crown may also be the ideal solution if you have a discoloured filling and you would like to improve the appearance of the tooth. If you have had a root filling, you may need a crown to protect what is left of the tooth.
At Isa Smiles, we have a number of different crown options available, from an all-ceramic or all-porcelain crown to metal and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. The option used will be discussed at your private consultation and will depend on what is best for your teeth and your budget.
EXTRACTIONS
A dental extraction (also referred to as tooth extraction, exodontia, exodontics, or informally, tooth pulling) is the removal of teeth from the dental alveolus (socket) in the alveolar bone. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons.
The most common extractions remove teeth which have become unrestorable through tooth decay, periodontal disease or dental trauma, especially when they are associated with toothaches. Sometimes wisdom teeth are impacted (stuck and unable to grow normally in the mouth) and may cause recurrent infections of the gum (pericoronitis).
In orthodontics, if the teeth are crowded, sound teeth may be extracted (often bicuspids) to create space so the rest of the teeth can be straightened.
Tooth extraction is usually relatively straightforward. The vast majority of extractions can be performed quickly while the individual is awake by using local anaesthetic injections to eliminate painful sensations.
ORTHODONTICS
Orthodontics is a discipline of dentistry that focuses on aligning the teeth and jaws to improve a person’s smile and oral health. Crooked teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean and are at risk for tooth decay and gum disease.
DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants are small titanium posts that are used to replace the original tooth root in the mouth where the teeth are missing. Basically, they act as replacements for natural teeth roots. Placing dental implants — typically following a tooth extraction — also helps to preserve the strength and health of the bone into which they are inserted.
This is because the bone and implants form a strong and long-lasting bond through a process known as osseointegration. When the root-like dental implants have fused to the bone, they provide a stable anchor upon which the artificial teeth can be mounted.
When it comes to dental implants, the dentist’s experience is not something you can substitute with cheaper pricing or a more convenient location. Our dental team is knowledgeable and practised, so you know you are getting the service you need.
WHITENING
Whitening treatments help restore your teeth’s former brightness or can reduce stains that you’ve had all your life. Dental professionals can help you understand how bright your teeth can become through teeth whitening.
Patient results can vary based on a wide variety of factors like background, age and predisposition. There are numerous ways to provide this treatment. One popular method is by in-chair whitening, administered by a dental professional. Another is a take-home kit administered by the patient themselves.
An extremely popular cosmetic treatment, Zoom Whitening, is a solution for patients who are wanting to reduce staining or discolouration. Whether you have a special occasion or simply want to brighten your pearly whites, Isa Smiles will help you achieve your most dazzling smile in a safe, healthy way.
SPECIAL OFFERS FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Children’s dentistry is one of the pillars of the philosophy of Isa Smiles. We believe that it is of the utmost importance for children to have regular checkups with their dentist. Regular checkups build the foundation for their future dental health in terms of encouraging excellent oral hygiene thought processes and habits.
Also, because childhood is obviously a period in life of constant growth and change, it can lead to dental issues. However, sometimes parents can delay their children’s appointments or visit irregularly due to cost in these difficult financial times. Our family-friendly practice at Isa Smiles makes it more affordable to visit the dentist for children and families.
WE OFFER QUALITY PRODUCTS TO CARE FOR YOUR TEETH
FILLINGS
A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When a dentist gives you a filling, he or she first removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area and then fills the cleaned out cavity with a filling material. By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay. Materials used for fillings include gold, porcelain, a composite resin (tooth-coloured fillings) and an amalgam (an alloy of mercury, silver, copper, tin and sometimes zinc).
No one type of filling is best for everyone. What’s right for you will be determined by the extent of the repair, whether you have allergies to certain materials, where in your mouth the filling is needed and the cost.
WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL
You might currently be experiencing discomfort or dental problems because of your wisdom teeth. You might not even know if your wisdom teeth could cause any trouble in the future. A tooth that fails to emerge fully is known as an impacted tooth. This partial eruption of the wisdom tooth may be caused by insufficient space in the jaw for the tooth or its improper angulation.
The impaction can either be partial or total. A totally impacted tooth refers to one that fails to break through the gums at all. Regardless of the situation, Isa Smiles can help. We have an experienced team that can make the extraction process as simple as possible.
